Transportation & Logistics Make Up Most of Carbon Footprint for Many Businesses

Transport And Logistics Found To Be Chief Contributors To Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

South Africa's Engineering News (5/15, Venter) reports, "According to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research's (CSIR's) Fifth State of Logistics survey, sponsored by Imperial Logistics, up to 75% of most local companies' carbon footprints come from their transportation and logistic networks." That means firms face "a heavy burden...to accept responsibility, invest and take the required measures towards a more environmentally friendly supply chain." The survey further found that "in 2004, energy supply was responsible for 25,9% of global greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions, industry for 19,4%, agriculture for 13,5% and transport for 13,1%."
